Sensei Meghan Smit

Founder and head instructor. Fifth dan black belt and a current national coach.

Meghan has trained in karate for over thirty years, twenty of them as a national team member, and has coached for eighteen. She still coaches at national level today.

At KarateZone she teaches the way she was taught: correct basics, respect for the dojo and steady progress, whether a student wants to compete or simply grow in confidence.

Shotokan, under JKS South Africa

KarateZone is affiliated to the Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS) South Africa, training in the traditional Shotokan style: kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).

Everyone starts the same way, at the beginning. Grading follows the JKS syllabus, and those who want to compete join our Friday kata and kumite sessions.
